La
colonisation par la pensée unique
anglo-saxonne.
me préoccupe profondément.

CONTROVERSIES : "Would Europe Have
Enough Say in a Reformed NATO?"
The
Madariaga College of Europe Foundation
is pleased to invite you to its next Citizens
Controversy:

Would Europe Have Enough Say in a Reformed
NATO?
With
Ambassador Benoît dAboville,
Former French Ambassador to NATO (2002-2005)
and
Jean-Luc Dehaene, Member of the
European Parliament (PPE-DE),
President of the Administrative Council
of the College of Europe
The debate will be moderated by
Pierre Defraigne, Executive Director,
Madariaga College of Europe Foundation
In the light of the NATO summit 3-4 April
2009 in Strasborg/Kehl, this upcoming
Citizens Controversy will
focus on the question of whether and how
Europe can develop a stronger voice in
a reformed NATO. With the launching of
a process to advance a new Strategic Concept
defining NATOs long-term future,
the admission of Croatia and Albania into
the Alliance, and the return of France
into its military structures, the Strasbourg
summit opened the door to a stronger and
more coordinated European voice within
NATO. But will, and should, the European
members seize this opportunity and speak
as one on issues as far reaching as Eastern
enlargement, transformation of NATOs
military structures, and relations between
NATO, the EU, Washington and Moscow?
On Friday 15 May 2009, between 13:00
and 14:30 in the new premises of the Madariaga
College of Europe Foundation:
14, avenue de la Joyeuse Entrée
1040 Brussels (close to Rond-Point Schuman).
The debate will be held in English, but
it will be possible to address questions
in French.

About the Citizens
Controversies:
In the run-up to the 2009 European Parliamentary
elections, the Citizens Controversies
strive to encourage citizen ownership
of the pan-European political debate by
securing fair and contrasting views on
fundamental EU issues. Each debate confronts
different points of view on a given topic
to point out options and trade-offs and
highlight the political stakes present
in each necessary compromise. The objective
is to enhance the perception of a European
common good, which is more than
the sum of national interests.
